Still deciding if we’re right for you? These frequently asked questions may help.
How are fees charged?
Your fees are deducted from your account on a monthly basis. These include management and administration fees. We do not charge performance fees, although some of our competitors do.
How are my fees calculated?
We have two types of fees: a per annum administration fee and a management fee that is calculated based off the total value of your portfolio.
The administration fee is $30 per annum. Our management fee is .63% for the Core Growth and Income Funds and 1.10% for our Specialty Funds. This means that every year you will pay a $30 administration fee as well as 0.63% on your balance attributed to the Core Funds and 1.10% on your balance attributed to the Specialty Funds.
Example of fees for a balance $10,000 with 3% invested in our Carbon Neutral Bitcoin Speciality Fund and 97% in Core Funds:
-
Core Fund fees $10,000 x 97.00% x 0.63% = $61.11
-
Speciality Fund fee $10,000 x 3.00% x 1.10% = $3.30
-
Admin fee = $30.00
-
Total fee = $94.41
You will see the administration fee charge of $2.50 per month, but the management fees are indirectly deducted from the fund units, so you will not see a separate explicit charge leaving your account for these fees.
Do fees vary between KiwiSaver providers?
Yes, fees can vary significantly between KiwiSaver providers. Each provider sets their own management fees, administration fees, and other charges. It's important to compare these fees, as they can impact your overall investment returns. Be sure to review the fee structure of each provider to understand the total cost of your KiwiSaver account.
Are there fees for switching funds or providers?
While it’s relatively rare, some providers charge transfer out (exit) fees. There are no transfer ‘in’ or ‘out’ fees with the Kōura KiwiSaver Scheme.
Are there any administration fees for KiwiSaver members under 18?
No, we waive the administration fee for KiwiSaver members under 18 to help them get started on their savings journey. This allows young members to begin investing without the burden of additional costs. However, their portfolio will still incur management fees.
