Meet Craig Seton, our August facilitator of the month! 

“The koura team are great to work with. They are a passionate team of professionals with a focus on providing quality advice and solutions to make KiwiSaver not just a simple commodity,” says Youm Mortgage Adviser Craig Seton.

We asked Craig to share why he loves what he does, his experience conducting KiwiSaver client reviews, and what it’s been like working with Kōura. 

 

What do you love about the job? 

Craig has been a financial adviser since 1996, after a 10-year banking career. He is a partner at advisory firm - Youm, which has been looking after the lending needs of clients in Manawatu since 1987. Craig has always loved building lasting relationships with clients and helping them grow their financial knowledge: Educating clients around financial literacy is a passion of mine and seeing clients prosper is so rewarding”. 

  

What difference has Kōura Wealth made for your clients? 

Youm recognised the need for KiwiSaver reviews as they were noticing most clients needed a greater understanding of their KiwiSaver plan, what fund type/s they were in, and in many cases, which provider they were with. So, being able to offer expert KiwiSaver advice became crucial. “KiwiSaver being such an important financial product, it was clear that clients needed advice, as the existing providers were very poor at this. Once we understood more about Kōura KiwiSaver and their products, processes, and philosophy it was clear they were a great fit.” 

For his clients that have chosen to have a KiwiSaver review with Kōura, Craig has seen a really positive response and comments that the detailed review process has added a huge benefit “clients now have a better understanding of what fund choices will give them a better financial future.” 

  

Craigs tips for new facilitators nervous about having a conversation with their clients. 

“It’s a very simple conversation to have with clients and a great fit when discussing a new mortgage. It shows we care about our clients and their financial future.”  

When discussing KiwiSaver with clients, Craig uses the Kōura brochure. He gives it to every client before following up to ensure they understand the full benefits of a KiwiSaver review. “After they’ve had their review, I follow up with any client that hasn’t responded to check whether they have any questions and how their review went”.
